Welcome to the Journalism and Media Ethics course! Here follows a breif presentation of this course.
Major areas covered:
- The role of a radio/TV journalist
- The different roles in Journalism and production for Radio/TV
- Co-operation and teamwork in radio production
- Interviewing for radio/TV
- Media ethics
- Conventions for radio production (media laws etc)
At the end of the module the student will be able to:
- Define the difference between a journalist and propagandist.
- Explain the different roles in radio production, scriptwriter, reporter, presenter, technician and producer.
- State the most essential ethical principles for a radio journalist.
- Give examples of what bad media ethics might cause.
- Make interviews suitable for the most common programme formats.
- Show a good sprit of co-operation with interviewees and production team members
The student will need to know:
- The basic principles of journalism and its code of practise.
- Basic media conventions and media laws.
- Good and bad ethics in media, and its possible consequences.
- The importance and technique of presenting the opposing views of an issue in media.
- How to present other peoples thoughts leaving to the listener to decide.
- Basic interviewing technique.
The student will have to (do):
- Write a 300-words statement about the differences between a journalist and a propagandist.
- Prepare and participate in a panel discussion programme about good and bad media ethics.
- Make and record interviews for the most common programme formats.
- Demonstrate a good spirit of co-operation and teamwork.
- Develop a radio producers code of conduct and practise, in written form.
